MEDICAL DIRECTOR

THE ORGANISATION

The Irish Cancer Society is the largest voluntary funder of cancer
research in Ireland, a major service provider and the respected voice
of Ireland?s cancer community. In **Apply on the website**, they

continuing to grow their investment year-on-year. This includes
developing new and transformative relationships with healthcare
professionals and cancer institutes in Ireland, including
multi-million-euro partnerships and research collaborations.

The Society is working to build a future where no-one dies from cancer
and everyone affected by the disease has access to world-class
treatment, care and support. The Society?s Strategy **Apply on the

significantly increased investment in cancer research, major expansion
of services, effective advocacy and transformative partnerships. To
ensure this work is informed by clinical experience and expertise, the
Society are creating a new role of Medical Director.

THE ROLE

The Medical Director will be a strategic leader within the Society and
Ireland?s clinical community. They will lead the Society?s
relationships with healthcare professionals and healthcare
institutions, including multi-million-euro research investments and
institutional partnerships which will change the face of cancer care
in Ireland.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Medical Director will serve as a
trusted advisor to the CEO and wider Executive Leadership Team on
clinical issues. The Director will act as the Society?s clinical
spokesperson and play a key role in relationships with medical
professional bodies, oncology networks, other research funders, and
international partners. The Director will drive patient-centric
research, with a focus on patient impact from the Society?s research
programmes and partnerships. They will provide clinical oversight and
advice to the Society?s services, and will collaborate internally
and externally to bring clinical innovation to Ireland.

THE PERSON

The successful candidate will be a respected and qualified medical or
surgical consultant with oncology, cancer care or cancer research
experience. They will have demonstrated excellence in clinical
practice and research, and strong patient centricity across their
work. They will hold a high degree of emotional intelligence and an
ability to lead, inspire and build relationships with a wide range of
stakeholders at all levels. They will have excellent network and
relationships across the cancer system. The will be a highly effective
communicator, with experience in media and public relations an
advantage. Above all, the candidate will be purpose driven, with a
strong commitment to the Society?s mission and a desire to improve
the lives of people affected by cancer.
